Repair, Redress, and RMA

Send it back. We will tell you what happened to it.

Repair, Redress, and RMA
Tool inspection at the service center.
We repair, redress, and recertify DataCan tools at our service center.

Every return starts with an RMA and ends with a report on what we found.

  • Repair and redress
  • Warranty and non-warranty
  • One form, all returns
  • Failure analysis on request

Start an RMA

Fill out the RMA request form on our website. Tell us the serial number and what happened, and we will issue an RMA number and shipping instructions. Do not ship a tool without one, because a package with no RMA on it arrives at our dock with nothing tying it to a customer, a well, or a problem.

Routine restoration of a tool to running condition between jobs. Seals, O-rings, battery connections, and the wear parts that a downhole tool consumes every time it goes in the hole. Redress is scheduled maintenance, not a repair. Tools that get redressed on cycle rarely become tools that need repairing.

Redress is what a tool needs because it ran. Repair is what a tool needs because something went wrong. Redress is predictable, quick, and quoted up front. Repair starts with teardown and inspection, because we will not quote a price for a fault we have not identified yet.

Yes. Every repair includes an assessment of what we found, and for permanent installations and significant failures we produce a written failure analysis with the root cause. We would rather tell a customer their gauge took fluid ingress through a cable pinhole than send back a working tool and say nothing. You cannot prevent the next failure if nobody explains the last one.

Send it in and we will tell you. The RMA form covers warranty and non-warranty returns through the same process, so you do not need to determine coverage before you ship. We assess the tool, determine the cause, and apply warranty where it applies.

Normal wear is ours. A rental tool comes back, goes through our service centre, and gets redressed and recalibrated before it goes out again. You never see a maintenance schedule and you never get an invoice for a tool doing what tools do.

Damage is different. If a tool comes back physically damaged, run outside its pressure or temperature rating, or returned in a condition that is not the result of normal service, the repair is billed to you. We tear it down, we tell you what we found, and we show you why. There is no judgment call made behind a closed door.

Ratings are published for every tool we rent. If your well is near the limit, tell us before the job and we will put the right tool on the truck.
See Rentals.

Yes. Recalibration is part of most repairs and can be requested with any return. See Calibration and Recertification.
