We calibrate and recertify DataCan pressure and temperature gauges, production logging tools, and load cells at our facilities. Every tool we rent goes through the same process between jobs.
We run the gauge across its full pressure and temperature range against traceable reference standards, compare its output to the reference at each point, and adjust its coefficients so it reads true across the envelope it will see downhole. The result is a certificate showing what the tool did at every point.
Annually is the common standard, and sooner if a tool has been run in severe conditions, exposed to temperatures near its rating, or produced data you have reason to question. High-temperature service is harder on a sensor than pressure is, and a quartz gauge that spent a hundred days above 300 degrees Fahrenheit deserves a look regardless of the date on the certificate.
Drift is the slow change in what a sensor reports for the same true pressure over its service life. A small drift is invisible in the data. It looks like a real reservoir signal and it will be interpreted as one, which is a worse outcome than a gauge that fails outright, because a failed gauge tells you it failed. Recertification is how drift gets caught before it becomes a conclusion someone acts on.
Every time. Every DataCan rental comes out of the same calibration center, on the same equipment, to the same standard as the gauges we sell. There is no separate rental grade. See Rentals.
The tool and its certificate, showing the reference points, the measured values, and the date. Keep it. On a permanent installation it is part of the well file, and on a rental it is the record behind whatever the data said.

On our downloads page. Enter the serial number marked on your gauge and the most recent calibration certificate is there to download, any time, no login and no phone call. If the serial number does not return a file, contact your regional service centre and we will find it.

Days, not weeks. Our automated precision equipment lets us run a full calibration cycle without a tool sitting in a queue, which matters when the gauge is due back on a job.
Send us the tool, or ask your regional service center what turnaround looks like.
