Reports To: Engineering Manager Position Type: Full Time
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, 37.5 hours per week
DataCan is an industry leader in designing and manufacturing surface and downhole gauges and loggers. DataCan’s instrumentation measurements include pressure, temperature, density, tilt, acceleration, magnetic fields, gamma radiation, fluid flow, capacitance, acoustic noise, and other properties. DataCan builds very low-power loggers that function for years between battery changes. IoT technology is used to get data from remote locations to customers’ desks.
DataCan is looking for a motivated and intelligent person to help maintain our current technology and develop the next generation of products.
Position Overview:
This position is responsible for maintaining and supporting our industry-leading products and systems. The Electrical Engineer will be directly involved in engineering, product development, manufacturing, and implementation. The ideal candidate is an inventive problem solver that is capable of working through technical challenges and employing pragmatic solutions.
Required Skills
- Understanding basic electrical engineering concepts such as analog-to-digital conversion, RC filters, bandwidth, and signal-to-noise ratio.
- Read and apply information from electronic component datasheets.
- Read and write product specifications.
- Strong verbal and written English communication.
- Ability to manage time and prioritize multiple requests.
Skills and Experience That Would be an Asset
- Debugging and troubleshooting electronics
- PCB design software, Altium preferred
- Surface mount electronics soldering
- Spice simulation/MATLAB experience
- IoT technology including Wi-Fi and Bluetooth modules and connectivity.
- Low-power data collection, storage, and transmission
- Analog circuits including, amplifiers, filters, ADCs, oscillators, frequency mixers, relays, photodiodes, and switching power supplies
- Data over power communication
- Signal modulation schemes
- Proficient with electrical test equipment (oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, network analyzers)
- Production documentation and manufacturing instructions

- Design microcontroller-controlled systems to collect, log, and transmit data.
- Develop electrical products by studying customer requirements; researching and testing manufacturing and assembly methods and materials.
- Verify design capabilities by designing testing methods; testing properties.
- Develop manufacturing processes by designing and modifying equipment for building and assembling electrical components; soliciting operator observations.
- Assure product quality by designing electrical testing methods; testing finished products and system capabilities.
- Ensure compliance with design and equipment specifications and applicable safety standards and regulations.
- Communicate with suppliers to convey product requirements.
- Assess project requirements and execute within budget and time constraints.
- Documentation of processes, testing and compliance with established policies and procedures.
- Analyzing and interpreting test data.
- Providing technical support to customers.
- Provides engineering information by answering questions and requests from management, other engineers, manufacturing, sales, and customers.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of B.Sc. in Electrical or Computer Engineering or similar discipline from an accredited University
- Ability to be registered with APEGA

Reporting to the Production Manager, you will be responsible for the manufacturing and repair of DataCan tools and systems. This includes reading drawings and manufacturing instructions to complete builds, soldering, in-process, and final Quality Control verification. Repairs include troubleshooting issues, using measuring and diagnostic equipment, completing repairs and repair reports.

A little about you:
- You
have working knowledge of computer programs, specifically, Microsoft Word,

- You have an Electronics Technician Diploma and a minimum of 1 year experience
- You
have the ability to read and write English, follow verbal and written
instructions and use simple math
- You
have excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skills
- Solid
understanding of health and safety regulations (we don't want anyone hurt,
