Job Summary:
DataCan Services Corp. designs and manufactures downhole and surface instrumentation for the energy industry. We are looking for a Junior Mechanical Engineer / Mechanical EIT to support mechanical design, production, product documentation, and field-driven product improvements.
This is a hands-on engineering role suited for a recent graduate or early-career engineer who is comfortable working with SolidWorks, manufacturing drawings, machine shops, production staff, sales, and quality documentation.
Duties:
Mechanical Design & Documentation
- Create and maintain SolidWorks part models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings.
- Maintain product catalog drawings, customer-facing drawings, and internal design documentation.
- Update drawings and models based on engineering changes, production feedback, and field issues.
- Support design reviews, drawing checks, tolerance reviews, and manufacturability improvements.
- Production & Supplier Support
- Communicate with machine shops and internal production staff to resolve manufacturing questions.
- Help identify root causes of non-conformances and recommend corrective actions.
- Assist with inspection.
Failure Analysis & Reporting
- Assist with failure investigations on returned tools, parts, and assemblies.
- Document findings with photos, measurements, observations, and clear technical summaries.
- Support corrective action reports, engineering reports, and internal design notes.
- Work with engineering, quality, and production to improve reliability and manufacturability.
Sales & Customer Support
- Prepare custom drawings for customer-specific applications.
- Support sales with technical drawings, dimensional checks, and product configuration details.
General Engineering
- Assist with prototype builds, testing, and evaluation.
- Support ERP/product data accuracy for mechanical parts, assemblies, and catalog items.
- Participate in continuous improvement projects related to design, quality, and cost.
- Follow DataCan quality, safety, and documentation practices.
Experience:
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline.
- Ability to read and create mechanical drawings.
- Strong attention to detail and practical problem-solving ability.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Beneficial
- 0–3 years of mechanical design, manufacturing, oilfield, machining, or product support experience.
- Working knowledge of SolidWorks.
- Experience with machined parts, pressure housings, threaded connections, sealing, O-rings, or downhole tools.
- Familiarity with ERP systems, bills of materials, engineering change processes, and inspection documentation.
- Hands-on experience with measurement tools, shop practices, or prototype assembly.
